Welcome everyone! In this space, I plan to give my takes on those things that most directly impact my life, including gender politics, civil and religious leaders being ridiculous, tea, food (and how it affects politics), the endurance sports world, and issues of language. Sometimes the topics will be serious, and I analyze everything to death and beyond, but most of the time I’ll serve everything with a generous heaping of humor and ridicule. You can get straight news from other, better regulated sources (like some of those in the sidebar), so I’ll offer mostly subjective analysis here.
This will be the column I’ve often dreamed of writing, which WordPress allows me to publish for free. I’ll also throw some links and visual media in for good fun every now and then. So welcome, and I hope I can brighten your day just a little bit.
As for the title, it refers to my background in dance. I started in tap, jazz and ballet, which I still enjoy when I can. College introduced me to social dancing, particularly salsa, hustle and west coast swing (which I really need to improve), which I also do when I can. Dance played an immeasurable role in my development as a student, a professional and a human being. It taught me to work hard, honed my attention to detail and showed me that I can achieve whatever I set my mind to. It also instilled in me an almost-radical acceptance of my body the way it is, despite not having the “ideal” ballerina body, which is a crucial part of my feminism and my life.
So, to get this week started off right, here are some links regarding current issues in sexual politics:
Yes, Sean Hannity, you are in the minority.
Thank you, Whoopi. (h/t Feministing)
Garfunkel and Oates make me happy.
Have a great day, everyone!
